Hi All

My employer uses Microsoft Exchange. I use Outlook to save calendar appointments, and I then sync to both my Okta Touch and my iPod Touch. The Okta Touch shows events perfectly in sync with Outlook, however my iPod Touch shows all-day-events one day early. Normal fixed-time appointments show up at the correct time.

A colleague of mine with an iPhone experiences the same issue.

To try to remedy it, I have checked that the timezone in Outlook and my iPod match, that timezone support in the iPod is switched on and is set to the same timezone, and that Daylight Savings support is active in Outlook. I have tried rebooting my iPod, removing the account and re-adding it to re-sync everything, but nothing seems to fix this issue.

Does anybody else using exchange server with either their iPhone or iPod Touch have the same problem? Could somebody try it out for me? I want to narrow down whether this is a problem peculiar to my employer's setup or if it is an Apple problem. The problem only started when Daylight Savings kicked in, so I have a hunch that these devices are somehow misprogrammed with incorrect DST settings for New Zealand.

Or perhaps the Exchange Server itself or your Microsoft Outlook is not updated? It would be strange, since the patches for both these products were offered with Automatic Updates - unless your IT dept didn't apply the patches.

I would see if the device itself is correctly managing the DST information. You see the problem is not changing the time on the correct date, but if an appointment is created outside the weeks that are part of the new DST for something happening within the weeks happening inside the new weeks that are part of the DST then the device might have the wrong timezone information to start with - the appointment is correct everywhere, but the device itself can't show it correctly.

This also happens with Windows Mobile if you have a Windows Mobile device without the latest DST patch applied.

Yes, I believe it is the device at fault but I'm not sure how to tell with Mobile OSX. There are no options within Mobile OSX like 'enable Daylight Savings Support' etc like there are with WinMo or Outlook. I'm guessing it is this, but I can't confirm. Very frustrating! Plus, because it is a 'closed' OS, unless Apple do something about it I doubt I'm going to be able to fix it.

By the way, it is not only affecting the weeks between the old and new DST start dates - for example, I have Labour Day (27/10) saved as an all-day-event and it shows up in my iPod Calendar as Sunday 26/10!

Just tested and yeah theres an issue.

I set an all day event in Outlook for the 27/10 and it appeared on my iphone as 26/10.
Standard appointments appear correctly and DST automaticly kicked. Exchange 2007 and my Outlook client are fully patched.

there are two places on your ipod that you need to set the timezone. first is in Settings\General\Date&Time and second is in Settings\Mail\Time Zone Support.

Make sure both are set to your location.

also confirmed, all day events get set 1 day previous. Woopsy Apple.

Must just be something to do with Exchange, because my iPhone doesnt have a problem (im just syncing via Outlook, not exchange) and its showing everything right time, right date, right year.

I have issues with timezone info from invitations sent from other Exchange servers. Essentially MS use their own format for timezone info (this may have changed in 2007) and causes issues with Lotus Notes and OS X. Not sure if same issue but gives me grief on OS X as they become locked floating events without a timezone and is a right pain when commuting between Aus and NZ. Why do MS make this so hard!

Completely and utterly offtopic, but when people say MS it makes me think of Multiple sclerosis.

Anyways I agree, why do they make it so hard.

I mean you would have thought these little (, to some, big) things would have been sorted out prior to release? its like all they wanted was for exchange as an OPTION but not have people use it, because it seems theres always a issue between the two.
Not to mention, Apples taking an extra long time with updating the callerID issue.

Damn it it's starting to bug me. No wonder people jailbreak there phones, atleast all the patches and things that are community based are regularly updated and are kept on top of, instead of waiting for companies (eg, vodafone to pass the information on, and apple to update THEIR phone)

I'm having exactly the same issue.

If I create the all day event on my iPhone, it syncs properly to Exchange. Yet if I create it on Exchange, it syncs to a day early on my iPhone.

Exchange 2003 fully patched, iPhone 3G v2.1

It makes no difference as to whether it is before or after time changes took place (or used to take place).

Grrr!

I have similar issues too. I say similar as it's peculiar in the sense that if I have an all day appointment, say for 20th Oct, when I sync my iPhone 3G with the Exchange Server at work, it'll show the appointment from 19th Oct 23:00 hours until 20th Oct 23:00 hours..! Not exactly 1 day early, but 1 hour early if you like!.. Worst still, iPhone will overwrite the calendar on my Exchange Server/Outlook and everything gets messed up!

I have the latest iPhone firmware. Not sure if it only kicked in after start of DST, as I've only just recently had the iPhone (for about 1+ week) - bought it after DST kicked in. Timezone settings is all correct though.

Lets hope this gets fixed soon - at least I know it's not a problem with my phone (I hope so!)...
