I need to get the battery replaced for my 6S and I wondered if anyone had any negative experiences (by negative I mean, has anyone gone this route and found that battery performance was bad again in a short space of time) with third party replacements? I know I should go with an Apple certified replacement, but from what I can tell I'll be without my phone for a week whilst it's done, and my nearest Apple place is an hours drive away. A local tech shop can do it in 15 (!) minutes.

Thanks for any feedback 😀

I had a couple of the kids older iPhones done at a third party guy locally.

He says on his site that he's Apple Certified but it's a 15min job and half the price of Apple, so I am dubious of that claim.

Saying that - been excellent.

Thanks for that. Yes, the shop I contacted were fully transparent saying what they offer is a third party replacement, and if I want an official Apple battery they told me where my nearest official vendor is (which I knew), so +1 to them for honesty, I guess.

I use a company in Takapuna, who are always great. They even give me the option of a "high quality" 3rd party battery, or "medium quality" one.

I have used them to do 5-6 phones over the years - and always go with the "medium quality" replacement, because of cost. Have had no issues at all.

Last year I had my daughters hand-me-down iPhone 6+ screen and battery replaced at iRepair in Avondale and I was pleasantly surprised. The work was good and impossible to tell the phone had been opened. Huge performance increase back to original level after a long time on limited battery performance thing.

Cheers,
Joseph

@guyl Hope this is not Dr Mobiles Takapuna! Caught him trying to rip me off once after he promised genuine parts!

He could not give me my money back fast enough after I proved him wrong and he was a SCAM!

There are good batteries and lousy batteries. If they install lousy battery at best your phone doesn't hold charge at worst it spontaneously combusts. If you get a good battery installed you're away with all day battery life.

I had my battery replaced at a Apple repairer with an authentic battery and was surprised at the cost. Make sure you get a quote for the real thing first.

6s like the OP's is $85 from Apple, plus $25 shipping. Doesn't help though, because it was the delay of sending the OP was trying to avoid.
