Hi all.

Who's getting up at 2am on Saturday to pre-oder the iPhone 12 Pro Max? And what colour are you getting?

That timing is based on converting 5 a.m. PST on Friday, November 6 to NZ time.

I've been following Geekzone for many years, but have finally created an account to jump into the forums.

I've had my XS Max since launch and it's going well, so I'm not too bothered about upgrading.  The Mrs has an iPhone 7 Plus which we replaced the battery and Apple leather case back in March, so it works and looks like new.... but she's a bit bored of it now.  She's not a techie so isn't bothered about the latest and greatest... so I'm thinking of doing a 'hand-me-down' with my XS Max and getting the 12 Pro Max.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max for work

I've always bought the Space Grey devices. But that gold looks appealing.  Anyone else stuck between the safe option of graphite versus the shiny gold?

As another XS Max user, I don’t have a good impression of Apple’s current offerings. Smaller battery, no USB C, a better screen/camera array sure but it doesn’t seem like that much more then the previous two gens. 5G use and a new 5nm chipset sounds good, but I don’t think it’ll do the phone any justice especially with battery life.

I will likely wait it out till next refresh. If I wanted a bit of fun maybe buy a high-end droid to play around with.

Unfortunately, I am planning on getting up at 2am on Saturday to order a Blue 128GB Max...

I'm still on an XS Max and didn't upgrade last year..

It does sound crazy to wake up at 2am to order a phone huh? But, I don't want to wait any longer for delivery than I have to...

It's pretty consistent every year, we'll get a tracking number prob between 8 and 9 PM on Thursday night and find that they are in Auckland awaiting dispatch.

Yup, that's from Apple. Tragically, I order the new iPhone from them every year.

I had a hell of a job getting it done this year though. I repeatedly opened the Apple Store app at 2 AM until it came up at about 2:04, already had the phone in my favourites and checked out. But when I tried to place my order, my card was repeatedly declined.

In desperation, I finally woke up my wife who let me use her card. I'll have to keep her around!

I checked in with the bank in the morning, and they said that because I was attempting to make such a large transaction at such an odd time, they blocked it from going through as an anti-fraud measure. Annoying!

Same for me – the pending transaction was there yesterday but gone now (and available balance increased to match). Maybe it's an early Christmas present for us (thanks, Tim!).

Any feedback on iPhone 12 or 12 pro - or mini!?

Partner just got iPhone 12 (non-pro), but yet to setup.

I'm still on the X which has been great!

Have a friend who works at telco and gets to try out handsets. If you’ve handled any of the recent iphones X/XS/11 then not much has changed. Screen is closer to the edge so usable picture is better. Other than that aside from the minor spec upgrades it’s very similar. Iphone 12 pro max specifically is just a bit larger than previous max thanks to edge-to-edge.

Thanks for that - have you personally actually used and held?

Some reviews suggest the square edges make it less comfortable...

The iPhone 11 pro is on sale making it similar to standard Phone 12, however no 5G 😬
