For a first gen phone, look at pwnage tool or quickpwn (windows version).. these should allow you to upgrade to the current 2.1 firmware and unlock the phone to work on Vodafone, there are plently of guides around and the software itself is fairly simple to use.

A colleage of mine recently got his hands on an iphone (had an n95) and absolutely loves it, but ymmv :)

ok after looking around and dealing with my friends problems I have decided on
buying a new 3g iphone not the 1st gen second hand.

I feel the 3g are better for the money. and 16g for the little extra between 8 and 16gs.

ok now here is the next worry...

I dont want to go on the iphone plans as they tie you in for 24 months and dont include alot of the
services i want for my phone.

So i will get a you choose on contract, plus txting and best mate addons

now for the data I can not find any seperate plans so feel i could get by on
the $1 per day for 10MB

I will only be checking emails once in while (from geekzone ofcourseWink) and maybe some  surfing not much..

First question, how much email and surfing will 10mb allow me?\
second question, can I use that data plan on iphone S:

thanks for any help cheers

ps.. i have google how much 10mb will give me in data not very clear.
