Hey Guys, thinking of getting either an iphone or ipod touch. Just a few questions.

1) Is it possible to connect the ipod touch to your bluetooth modem so that you have internet on the move? IE, i currently use my nokia over bluetooth to connect to the internet from my notebook, is the same possible from the itouch?

2) When using the Wifi on the ipod touch, can it connect directly to your wifi router at home? Or do you need any special software installed on your pc thats always on? Is it possible to connect to multiple wifi networks, ie one in the office and one at home?

3) How easy is it to setup the wifi networks? Or does the itouch behave simular to a notebook, it just finds wifi signals and gives you the option to connect?

4) From what I gather the only difference between the ipod touch and the iphone is the phone? I know that the iphone supports 3g/edge etc, but I don't think I will need that if I am able to make use of my current nokia as the bluetooth modem.

PS: New to the forum, so appolagies if these questions have been asked before or if I am posting in the wrong thread.

Cheers

1 - iPod touch has no Bluetooth support
2 - Wi-Fi works like any other standard device - can connect to a Wi-Fi router e.g. hotspot, your own broadband router
3 - Exactly
4 - iPod touch and iPhone 3G differences: 3G phone, GPS, Bluetooth, and some other little features. Also major updates come with a charge sometimes, and there are also minor differences in functionality within the software itself.

BraaiGuy: Hey Guys, thinking of getting either an iphone or ipod touch. Just a few questions.

Officially = Nope, neither the iPhone or iPod Touch will allow this.  There was an app out a while ago but Apple killed it.
Unofficially = Yep, if you jailbreak the iPhone you can get an app called PDANet (i think).

2) When using the Wifi on the ipod touch, can it connect directly to your wifi router at home? Or do you need any special software installed on your pc thats always on? Is it possible to connect to multiple wifi networks, ie one in the office and one at home?

Yep, you can connect to any WiFi hotpost just like a laptop.  You can have multiple profiles that will auto-connect at any WiFi router you have access too.  You can even have it present a message when it comes across new hotspots that you don't know of - you ned the details to connect though.

3) How easy is it to setup the wifi networks? Or does the itouch behave simular to a notebook, it just finds wifi signals and gives you the option to connect?

Just like a notebook, scans for the network, tries to connect, asks for password, connects.

4) From what I gather the only difference between the ipod touch and the iphone is the phone? I know that the iphone supports 3g/edge etc, but I don't think I will need that if I am able to make use of my current nokia as the bluetooth modem.

Up to your preference.

Dam, really thought the iphone touch had bluetooth. bummer.

So it looks like it would have to be the iphone then because the ipod touch is pretty useless for checking your emails etc while you on the go when there are no wifi networks.

Thanks guys
