If you are having an issue installing the critical 14.5.1 update (corrupt install screen, crashing etc), change your device language to English (US) then try to install.

Apparently this bug only affects NZ and Aus devices, so changing the language corrects it.

I was thinking my phone is borked.

Q: Is it safe to change back to NZ after the update is installed?

Edit: A: Yep - seems to be fine.

Installs fine using a USB cable and iTunes as well.

When I updated my iPad yesterday, I changed the language country to US, as above. Then changed back to NZ and all OK.

Today I updated iPhone X and deliberately didn't change the language country  - left it as NZ - and all OK.

I had this issue and didn’t have to change my phone language. I hit install once connected to WiFi and with my battery at 90% and from there didn’t touch the centre of the screen as the updater would crash otherwise.

Thanks for the tip changing the device language to US solved the issue.

Mine behaved a little "oddly" and the update notification didn't fully load, but it did download and install on both my iPhone 11 pro max and my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9.

My language on both is set to NZ...
