Question

I have setup home streaming on my Apple TV in the lounge so i can view the MP4 files located on my home Windows 10 PC at the other end of the house.

While I can now see the MP4 files in the movies group, it doesnt show the folders they are contained in. Its just a big jumble

I cant seem to find online how to show the MP4 files in folders like happens in photos with Albums.

Any thoughts appreciated

You should look at running Plex on your computer and the Plex app on the Apple TV

But I don’t recal you can setup folders

As above, run a plex server on the PC and the plex app on the Apple TV. Will save you some headaches in the long run

I gave Plex a go, but it wasn't for me. So I settled for Jellyfin, an open source project that's super simple to set up. You pretty much run a server, and use a client to watch your media. Just like Plex.

The only problem with jellyfin, unlike Plex, is the lack of a native Apple TV client. Other than that it’s looks quite good. And still has plugins.

I haven’t investigated live tv on it though

If you can see the raw files.. then just run Infuse on the Apple TV and point it directly at the file locations... no need to run a back end server at all...

Also agree that 'Infuse' is great on the AppleTV. Automatically grabs all the meta data from the internet and has a beautiful interface. It can see the media files on my computer and NAS drive and shows the folders.

Pay for the Pro version (about $10pa) and get full surround sound support.

I ended up switching from the native Plex app on Apple TV to Infuse, so much better

The native Plex app is garbage ever since they switch to the new player

I use (and paid for) MrMC, which is a Kodi port for the Apple TV. Works on all my local content, as well as having the ability to steam live TV.  I don't feel I need to transcode so never bothered with Plex; native bitrate all the way!

It handles 4K files fine (i have my Apple TV on Ethernet), and (from memory) supports nearly all audio formats. https://www.avforums.com/threads/apple-tv-4k-owners-thread.2121816/page-681#post-28990103

What is great about Infuse is the interface (I haven't seen MrMC), it is very slick and simple. Grandkids use it all the time. As Firecore say, it "plays almost anything from anywhere". Does Dolby Atmos with the free version, you just need Pro for hi-res sound (DTS-HD etc). It has played everything that I have thrown at it perfectly.

Newtown: ... make sure to check out Infuse

dfnt: I ended up switching from the native Plex app on Apple TV to Infuse, so much better ...

Seeing Infuse for the first time made me wonder why I ever paid for a Plex subscription ...

... but I do need Android compatibility ...

The only issue with all these apps and the hardware is ATV doesn't support audio pass through, so no Atmos for example to soundbar.

I would love to consolidate devices down, but rely on a Ziddo Z9S for full media playback
