Apple at WWDC 2022 introduced new 35W power adapters with dual USB-C ports, and they are now available in NZ for NZ$99.
IMO Apple should have introduced this plug a long time ago.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

It seems these chargers do not work the way you might expect them to work. Two connected devices do not both receive 35w.

Correct that’s how a 35W charger works, otherwise it would be a 70W charger.
Ah - great answer - thanks.

richms:Still very low power output for the high price.

For the same price you can get a GaN charger that’s double the capacity and likely has more features. It doesn’t make sense.
Agree with you.

Here is the tear down of this new plug

The question is will this become the default charger they ship with ipads?,
Or will they continue to pushout the 20W one , which can be bought for pretty much 1/3 the price, and really underlines how expensive this one is ... even for apple...
nztim: Too late to the party Apple Belkin have one already that is 100W or 2x50w
You've just summed up Apple in one sentence. late to the party with an under specced device but for some reason everyone still buys them.
I recently bought this charger so I could have a second charger in a different room for my MacBook Pro. Its awesome, allows me to charge my MacBook and fast charge my phone from the one powerpoint.
I'd prefer the compact version but I get a feeling that's not happening for anywhere except the USA.
Either way, I'm not spending bloody $99 on a power plug.

I guess that's because the compact version has folding pins for US wall sockets. Apple has never released folding pins for the Australasian (and other compatible) markets - so we're stuck with the swappable pins modules. These also come in the World Travel Adapter Kit that Apple sell. That kit is actually pretty handy.
