Hi Team,

Thinking of getting an Apple Watch this year, just going for the standard Apple Watch 8 version in Aluminum.  My question how scratch resistant is the anodizing for the coloured watches or should I choose Aluminum Silver.  What is everyone's experience ?

I had a black aluminium Series 2 and after around 2 years it had a small scuff in the housing that made it appear lighter in that section.

fwiw, I upgraded to a Stainless Steel Series 4 which I still have today and after 4 years, I still don't have single scratch on the housing or screen

I've had the space grey Series 4 since it was released (four years ago), and it's been on some adventures!

The casing is holding up just fine, a couple of very small dings, but nothing major. The displays with the aluminium watches are slightly softer than the ones with the stainless casings too by the way. But they're still very good at handling daily life activities.

My wife has had a Series 3 Apple Watch for a few years now. The body isn't too scratched but the screen has scratches all over it. I hope the current versions have a newer/better version of Ion-X Glass.

Thanks Team,

That makes the choices easier; So the case seems not to be an issue I was worried if I go a darker model an scuffed it the colour would come off. As for the screen I was thinking of something like an invisible shield Like the phone that would give me Pease of Mind.

I have heard people with the stainless steel mention that the housing get scratched. And this article also supports that

I never really noticed many scratches on my SS Series 2 - which I still use as a spare.

The durability of the Sapphire glass screen vs Ion X on the Aluminium version s is night and day though - not a ingle mark on my Series 2 screen, but the Series 6 Nike that I wear now is quite scuffed on the screen.

I previously had a series 2 stainless steel, and I now have a series 6 stainless steel. I have poor balance and coordination and tend to bash watches against door frames, etc., but the worst I have done to either of those watches is very small scratches on the stainless steel body which are only visible on close examination. I have never scratched a sapphire display.
