Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday, I've suddenly got the word "Vodafone" above the icons on the main screen of my iPhone (this is in addition to the "VodaNZ" wording at the top). Any idea why this has suddenly popped up?

Out of interest, did you upgrade your iPhone to 2.2.1 firmware which came out this week???

It's bizarre huh! It happens to my iPhone 3G every now and then, and just disappears eventually (usually on the same day).

it's basically a little Vodafone title above all the icons on the homescreen/springboard. So you've got the VodaNZ in the top left of the phone, the time in the top middle and the battery icon in the top right. Then, above the actual icons (SMS, Calendar etc.) there is a centered 'Vodafone'.

I'd be very interested in knowing why/what this is! I haven't updated yet to the new firmware that came out this week.

No, haven't updated to 2.2.1 - I'm hesitant to upgrade firmware on a device when it doesn't add/fix anything useful to me. That being the case I don't think they've actually added anything genuinely useful since the 2.0 firmware.

Anyhow, yep, it's as Benjip describes, let's see if I can get a picture of it... Good test of Windows 7's bluetooth :)

iPhone screen

BTW - Anyone who hasn't using the "snipping tool" in Vista/Win7 - it's really handy!

A second "Vodafone" on the screen seems a bit redundant, be nice if they changed the abbreviated "VodaNZ" to an actual Vodafone logo, it'd look more professional IMO.

{MOD EDIT : SP : Fixed image link.}

Tell me about it!!! 4 dropped calls a day every day on 2.0 and 2.1, went down to a dropped call a week with 2.2, and now the call failures only seem to happen when I tell the iPhone to end the call, when it doesn't really matter anyways.

The latest update resolves baseband issue so all the 3g iphone updates should be done.

Today the "Vodafone" is gone again. What's going on here?

If you dont really care about the words - There is an app on Cydia that allows you to change from VodaNz/Vodafone to anything you type in
