Just saw this. We have Apple multiple Apple devices across various platforms and my initial reaction is that it doesn’t really worry me - but maybe it should.

Anyway it’s a bad look for Apple and is probably going to become a big story.

Oh come on. Smartphones are data collection devices. You’ve either got one that has an operating system developed by an ad company for full on data collection or you’ve got another by a hardware manufacturer who also sells ads too.

While Apple may be the lesser of the 2 evils they’re still evil. But heck have you seen what Android collects? That’s scary levels of data.

The only way to not be tracked these days is to disconnect off the internet.

You can be on the internet & not tracked. It takes effort & it starts with loading a custom OS.

About all you can do is try and minamise the data collection!

That assumes you are tracked from your device.

It is not that it happens, everyone in IT knows it does. The argument is that unless express consent is given then it should not happen and allowing opt out is not the solution the default should be opt in. Google are somewhat open about it, Apple make a point of the supposed privacy protection.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I think the main point in the link in the OP is that Apple purported to give users the right to opt out - but then ignored the users’ wishes/instructions and collected all the personal data anyway. Certainly allowing opt out is not the best solution but could be a workable second-best solution - so long as the users’ instructions are respected.

If the allegations are correct, Apple has a lot to answer for. Looks like they will have to answer in court - answering the class action.

I was aware of that however, it is not even an opt out when the opt out is not honoured. The days of big tech playing lose with individual rights and privacy needs to end and the way to make it end is to hurt those corporations that don't comply very hard where it hurts most, their balance sheet.

inmho it should always be opt in, opt out has proven to be not trust worthy so they the likes of Apple should lose that privilege.
