An FYI

https://support.apple.com/en-nz/iphone/repair/battery-replacement

The current out-of-warranty battery service fee will apply until the end of February 2023. Effective March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will be increased by NZ$ 40 for all iPhone models prior to iPhone 14.

That is a massive price increase. I wonder why they are increasing it so much, as even inflation isn't that high. And why it doesn't apply to the new model, even though it is likely the new model would not need a new battery for some time. Means more people won't get it done due to the expense, vs getting a new phone. So potentially more e-waste. I just wish they sold the genuine batteries so people can do it themselves, and surprised the CGA doesn't require them to do this, especially  as it is a consumable. I heard they do provide a whole kit you can rent with a battery but that isn't a cost saving.

Mine needs a new battery but there doesn't appear to be an option to send it in, and I don't live anywhere near a service centre. So they don't make it easy. I feel that they really want people to buy a new phone when they say that the battery needs replacing.

You nailed it.  They don't become a trillion dollar company by being nice to their customers.

I'm pretty sure that a week or so ago when I checked, they were still showing that older phones (e.g. iPhone 6) could get batteries replaced - they seem to have dropped off now completely.

Nearly 50% price hike. Like how they say that the price hike it doesn't apply to the iphone 14, because none of those batteries should have failed yet, and it would be covered by the warranty anyway.

Interesting that in the US they will replace batteries down to the iphone 5. Plus their fee increase was less when converted to NZD, and is quite a bit cheaper https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2023/01/03/iphone-battery-replacement-cost/10983671002/
