I'm considering to buy an iPhone 11 Pro 256gb... Is it still worth it or with $100 more, go for the iPhone 12 pro?

I'm not after for the latest and greatest such as iPhone 14/15. I just wanted that Pro series with 3 cameras.

Planning to buy refurbished in sites like Reebelo. Anyone of similar situation or any advices? Budget is under $850.

Probably not for refurb, but if it’s any help I’ve kept my launch XS max 256GB is at 82% battery and hasn’t slowed down much at all. Slight burn in by the battery indicator on screen but otherwise still very useable.

Probably best to get as modern as you can for support lifetime.

Depends on how long you want to keep it for and how long you want to get ios updates for. Going for a slightly newer model with an newer chip usually means longer software support. Often you can get a better deal second hand rather than refurbished as long as it is in good condition. but battery life remaining is a consideration. I am not sure if refurbs get new genuine batteries installed, or if they do get the batteries replaced, whether they are inferior clone batteries, as I don't' think apple sell he batteries separately.  It isn't cheap to get a battery replaced through apple with an older device, compared it its value,  and they have recently increased the price a lot for battery replacements in the last year or so. I have an SE2 and the battery needs replacing, but it is too much of a hassle to do it, as apple have no repair agent in my area. I think the 11 is a bit old in 2024 especially with that budget.

I bought my daughter a 12 pro 256GB for a birthday present on TradeMe back in July for $650 ish been a great phone perfect condition and included the box. I suggest keep it local that way you can inspect on pickup. I factored in cost of getting Apple to replace the battery as the phone was on 84% battery health still worth it.

You just have to keep your eyes on the listings as good deals go real fast, I sort by latest listings so you don’t miss them.

Keen to hear thoughts on Reebelo? I'm in a similar boat, looking for an iPhone but can't justify the spend on a new one. The 12 has all the features I need. I really wish they did a new SE.

I created a new thread, but saw this thread so apologies for HJ'n the thread, but save on resource :-).

Old friend needs a new mobile. They are use to apple IOS, I cant talk them into android :-)

They are willing to take the risk of a used device, provided if it does last, they keep getting the security updates for the last two years of apple's 5 year updates.

Now that the SE is no longer sold, would an Iphone 12 CPU and Camera (and general product points) suffice for simple day to day needs and is still an ok phone for the price used?

Yes, iPhone 12 is still a good everyday phone. Hasn’t lagged with the latest OS. It’s very capable

That sounds good.

I quite like the form factor factor of the apple mini, much the same as 5.6" droids, I have to use a half screen keyboard, which I enjoy a lot more than every proprietary KB Ive used (which is many). Each to their own.

I think the camera on the 12/13 could still hold its own VS cheap Asian phones ? Especially the significantly cheap iPhone mini?

If you can handle a smaller screen, what about the 13 mini? Seems very similar to the bigger ones. appears to do apple pay and 5g?

All iPhones of the same year have the same software and basic functionality. The differences between Mini/iPhone/Pro/Pro Max is battery, screen and cameras. There's also some USB differences for the iPhone 15 but the 13s are all the same.

Would you say the 12 and 13 are roughly the same functionality, aside from SOC changes of course.

I wouldn't mind swapping to iOS for a while. But one of my frustrations with current Galaxy is screen size, im finding 6.1" just too small for me thumb typing even with the largest keyboard. I tried in landscape and thats a huge pain. So was looking t upsize as I have no issues with large phones in my pockets etc. allthough used they nearly double the base iPhone......

Both 12 & 13 appear to have 10bit in 1080p video, but GSMa comparison appears the 13 has cinematic mode.

The cameras whilst not current Gen, seem to pop quite nicely. Good for times I don't have my FF Mirrorless with me (most of the time).
