Hi, great to discover a newish app from Air NZ http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=304851207&mt=8

It should be very handy for those who travel often. I was flying recently & used the pdf eTicket that AirNZ emailed to me - I saved it to a folder with the Airsharing app, brought it up on screen & zoomed in to the bar code as I was at the auto-checkin machine, held it under the scanner & it read the barcode & spat out a boarding pass. The new app should make all this even easier.

Cheers,
Mike

The application is only a week old actually. I had lunch with one of the Air NZ guys the day the app was launched. It's currently only available on NZ App Store and they will add "Air New Zealand" to the name sometime soon.

More to come on this front apparently.

Seems a little buggy at the moment, but promising.
Caches the previous result until you manually refresh.  eg shows no flights when opening app.  Have to click on refresh button on top right and now shows flights.

Would the caching be so that when you have Wi-Fi and not 3G and you have downloaded a copy of your boarding pass prior to going to the airport you don't need an internet connection to view it again??
Only thing is you could save it as an image then you wouldn't need that anyway.
I haven't tried the app yet but it sounds really good and especially in conjunction with their new domestic check-ins, which work very well.

I can only assume the iPhone add offers the same functionality as the Java app that's been aroound for a long time and works great on Symbian phones.

It syncs all your flight details so there is no need for a data connection at the airport - it lists flights and then has the scannable matrix barcode so you can scan your phone screen to board the plane.

Air NZ are doing some cool stuff, I even love the calendar entry they send with etickets now that syncs with my Exchange calendar.. Probably not so good if you don't use Exchange though! Smile

also there is only one calendar entry for the first flight... and does not load correctly.

Great to see some good stuff from AirNZ.
Yes Steve it is the electronic boarding pass (same as mPass).
I see the benefit of caching, and I see their justification for manual refresh as in the information for mPass it warns again that you "will be charged at your normal internet data rate"
For an international flight it gets represented as "Boarding pass not available for this flight" as the barcode / gate system is not applicable. Would be good to show the seat allocation, or ability to request the seat allocation.

So did Air NZ develop this internally?

Hi,
I used this APP for around 6 journeys but I should worn everyone do not rely on it!
It had one glitch with it, that is when I open it now its just white with the tabs at the bottom, this is with 3.0 SDK and 2.2.1 so just be warned. I only noticed at check in so keep an eye out.

Cheers
