Seems like I'm going to have a better chance of winning the Lotto this the weekend.

Can't for the life of me work out how this is done. Can't drop & drop. Can't drop it into iCloud. File is almost 3GB.

Just wondering how I can do this? Thanks heaps!

Download VLC player for the iPhone, then it has a file upload function, browse to the IP of your iPhone and then upload it into VLC for iphone

From memory, doesn't this keep the file only inside / accessible to VLC instead of any & all apps?

@ Finch -

  1. Instead of drag&drop, have you tried using the Upload button
  2. Have you tried using iTunes?
  3. What OS are you using? If you are using Windows & have the iPhone available on the left in the folder tree pane, then I believe the drag & drop functionality is available only for photos.

I use FileExplorer..  You can make samba (unc share) connections to machines including windows.

The problem might be the playback of the video file though.  But FileExplorer is pretty capable of that as wel.   Some codecs (inside the mkv container) are not able to natively play on  apple hardware, of which conversion (normally to mp4) iss requried.

yes, but VLC is the best program for the apple `I' ecosystem to play mkv files so does it matter?

I think most apple apps are like that.  The only exeption might be if it's an mp4 file that the native player might be able to access it if you've copied it with files to local phone (or icloud).   But honestly never tried

I OP wants to play the media on the iPhone, no, it does not. OP however also didn't state the reason to have the file on the iPhone. I was merely trying to make the OP aware of the implications if they have a different reason.
