Hi

I'm wanting to get another Apple TV.  I currently have an Apple TV 4K which will move to my bedroom.

I haven't seen any official word yet of the new version finally coming out.  It's been suggested by some late 2024, early 2025 by some.. I have also read online from an 'insider' there is no plans/no eta.

Is there any official source as to dates?

Apple is the only official source, and they don't tell you until it's released.

They've just announced an event for September 7th (8th NZ) where they will likley release the new iPhone/Watch, maybe Apple TV but I doubt it.

Here is some detail on the Apple TV that suggests a new version is due soon.

Actually 9th (10th NZ, i.e. Tuesday week).

Doubt there will be a new Apple TV announced as part of the upcoming event. Its mainly focused on iPhone's and the Apple Watch. The Apple TV is typically updated ~ 3 years so my guess - March or so. Then again - it could be the event ~ October which covers iPad's and other items.

Saying this - the Apple TV 4K is solid and highly performant - apart from making possibly adding a new CPU (not that it needs it) - not sure they need to do much more. It out performs the Fire TV's and Chromecasts.

Why do you want to upgrade your Apple TV 4K? I have all three generations of the Apple TV 4K and they are much of a muchness for streaming and Plex/Jellyfin etc.

I wouldn't bother unless there was a specific use case you need the new one for.

Was about to ask the same question, what are you expecting a new version to do that the current one doesn't already cover?

Just because I want another for my bedroom.. not purely an 'upgrade'. :-)

But you simply said "I'm wanting to upgrade my existing Apple TV."

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So what you could have written to avoid receiving this logical and well-meaning advice was “I'm wanting to buy another Apple TV.”!
