My daughter is a bit rough with cables and is looking for a good lightning cable for her iPhone, and willing to spend actual money for a change rather than Temu :D

I think braided would be good option.... but I have no clue about the brands out there these days.

So what brand should she look at thats reliable ?

We are in an interesting situation in our home where we have a mix of iPhones that are usb-c & lightning and have just replaced all the cables round our home/vehicles with these CAC003fq1.5MWH

Not an answer but I would say that I’ve bought some cheaper braided cables and they have been just as bad as some others so don’t assume just because they are braided they are better.

Any comment made here is my own and should not be taken as that of my employer.

Is she destroying the cables connecting and disconnecting from the phone?

Braided may be better. I've had some good ones from Cygnett.

If it's a connection issue (like the phone doesn't charge or doesn't connect in CarPlay or something) then I've had best results with standard Apple cables. Also, clean out lint from the lightning port.

I wouldn't expect any cable to be immune to rough user handling.

Not wishing to be rude, but perhaps a little bit of education on how to treat her possessions carefully might be a good idea?

I've had bad luck with Apple's cables - while they certaintly do last a bit longer than cheaper ones they do wear out more than other good brands. Even Samsung I'd put in the same category as Apple - I had one where the plastic covering around the USB plug just cracked and fell apart but it did last about 1-2 years before that.

Belkin I've found to be pretty good -- have a few Belkin one of various constructions around the house and in the car and they've held up pretty well and I've actually yet to replace a Belkin but I'm sure it'll happen at some point. I wouldn't worry about whether it's braided or not -- I think it's just a gimmick TBH and some of the more reliable ones I've had have just been good old plastic ones.

I've had really good experiences with Baseus cables from Aliexpress, had ones last for 4-5 years in heavy use environments

One in the lounge used to charge laptops/phones - very heavily abused, recently had to replace it as it started getting quite hot at the usb ends and would sometimes not charge
Got one in one of the cars that has outlasted two OEM cables in the other car

I'm gentle with my cables so my experience may not be helpful but I've always had good experiences with Ugreen cables from Amazon AU.

Can't comment on lightning cables but shout-out to Nokia whose micro-USB cable was so robust it's still going strong sixteen years after it came with my N8. (That phone also came with a HDMI to mini-HDMI adapter, which is also in good condition, but that one sees less regular use.)

Thank you for this info. I'm in the same situation and with an iPad replacement coming up (hopefully 12th Gen release duty free) this would be ideal for us.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Daughter was at Albany EBGames and they had a cable for $3 so she grabbed that for now ;)

Will pass on the info here to her tho so she can continue a hunt for something better :)

Trick is to get the longer apple ones…

I’ve never had issues with apple cable and even more so when I’ve had the longer ones.

the standard short ones are useless.

eah, braided is definitely the right call if cables tend to break 👍

If you want something that actually lasts, these brands are usually safe:

Anker
Probably the best “buy once and forget” option. Their cables are known for durability and handling bending really well.

Belkin
A bit more premium feel. Very similar durability to Anker, maybe slightly nicer build overall.

IKEA
Surprisingly decent for the price. Not as premium as the others, but still much better than random cheap cables.

What matters more than the brand

Honestly:

Braided cable → much more durable
MFi certified → avoids compatibility issues
Reinforced ends → most cables fail at the connectors

Honest take

Apple’s own cables work fine, but they’re not exactly known for lasting a long time.

If your daughter is rough on them:
→ go with Anker braided
→ or Belkin braided

That’s usually the point where you stop replacing cables all the time.
