You have to be a paid developer with Apple. If you have a NZ 3G iPhone it will just install on it . If you you have a non NZ 3G iPhone or EDGE iPhone then there is hacking to do.

Probably best to wait until June for them to release the final version of 3.0

The current version is beta 5, it's still quite buggy

It has not been released to the public yet, so if you are prepared to do some leg-work and find what you need, hack your unit, and put up with bugs, and have no official support, then you can do it, but for the sake of waiting a short time, and getting the public release when it's ready, I think that is the far better option for most people.

guys, I'm bricked at the moment but I think I could throw on the beta to at least get the phone working somewhat... how hard is it to throw on a 3g iphone and I guess I have to find a "source" to get the beta?

djpaubes: you have a bricked 2G or 3G Iphone?

its pretty near impossible to realy brick a 2G one and much harder for a 3G one :-)

If you want to give your 'dead' iphone to me.. I'll happily accept it (to keep)

I've bricked a 3g iphone. I'm stuck on baseband 5.9... I stupidly used quickpwn to try and unlock it... well its bricked until they release a fix.

oof.

I feel your pain. Im itching to try the 3.0 upgrade too, but i think ill wait for the legit version to be released, and for it to be cracked by the dev team, or my iPhone v1 will no doubt be bricked.

well until then I have an expensive ipod haha. Was thinking I would be able to run the 3.0 software on there so at least I could get it going again. Hopefully the dev team release a fix soon or a bootloader/baseband fixer :)

yep I can restore the firmware no problem but its from a UK providor so it wont work here. My problem is (apart from note reading the warning) is I've updated the bootloader which wont allow me to rollback the firmware so yellowsnow can unlock the phone.

So it's not bricked. It's just SIM-locked.

Very different things. They did release a warning for people who were running yellowsn0w NOT TO USE QUICKPWN, so if you did and lost your unlock, shame on you. :)

Let's wait for version 3.0 to be released and then we'll see what sort of shenanigans the Dev Team will come up with.

What if I managed to put 3.0 beta on? Would that brake the simlock and/or make is usable in NZ?
