Will be interesting to see how this is priced on AppStore, and also details of what is included in the kit.

The TomTom car kit for iPhone;
a specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car charging.

Will the dock connector provide connection to a stronger antenna for GPS sat lock

I just want maps that I can store on my iPhone so that they don't use so much data and so they can be used if out of 3G

Apparently so.

I'd like to know if it connects to your stereo so you can play music in the background, and then it pauses the music, gives you the direction and then starts playing it again.

During the keynote they said it will play your music through the car stereo - so it's reasonably safe to assume it will do all the bells and whistles like that if you install a car kit.

Yeah - it does look good. I'm optimistic, but very keen to see how the price it (particularly the cradle), as my Navman is starting to show it's age now and It would be really handy not to need two devices.

Would also eliminate the worry about leaving the unit in the car for thieves.

I will be first in line to buy this App and the car kit if the price is not to unreasonable. I was planning on upgrading my phone and buying a separate GPS unit in a few months, would be so much easier to have one and the same though. Any rough guesses on price for the App and kit? I'm guessing along with the iPhone I won't get much change out of $2000.

Yeah I was also in the market for a new GPS but as long as it's reasonably priced and works well I'll be in line as well.

Unless you get installed maps, surely this cant cost to much as all the technology is in the iPhone and you will be hammered on data charges (in NZ where it isn't unlimited).

Cradle and app for a couple of hundred plus a bit more for installation if you want it hooked up to your stereo.

The maps will be installed. This was one of the restrictions on developers creating 'turn by turn' apps.. they must supply their own maps, the google API's cannot be used.
