OK... I was just messing around with ipcc files trying to work out how to enable it. Then I re-applied the official ipcc file to my iphone.

For some reason I decided to see if iphone tethering would work if I was connected to wifi... it worked but not exactly how I was expecting. I think it was accessing data through the 3G not the wifi. I ended up turning off wifi on my iphone and it still worked!

It seems that Vodafone was listening to me moaning about how it's stupid how Prepay users can't access the www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz APN (therefore blocking tethering). So now I'm connected to the iphone specific APN and tethering is working.

So I have something good to say about Vodafone. Eeeww... it feels all strange inside Tongue out

Can anyone else confirm that VF have enabled the www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz APN for prepay users?

LennonNZ: the APN for tethering is set to www.vodafone.net.nz in the official Vodafone NZ Carrier File

This morning the carrier file set it to the iPhone version, even though I have always used the www.vodafone.net.nz.
When attempt to setup tethering I get the contact VF error.

After contacting VF, they mention that the reason I am getting the error is a problem with the activation server. Would that be a VFNZ server?

Maybe or maybe not..
Vodafone says it may be because the activation server is slow...

BTW... I can't access the www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz APN this morning again... but I still have tethering as an option. Strange.

Seems like it was just unavailable before the launch... that would make sense.

Though I don't know why I can't access the iphone APN. I don't care anymore anyway. I'm happy.

At least they didn't try and block editing the APN in the latest carrier bundle. Or did they? I'm never quite sure cause I enabled it and so haven't seen the 3.0 with a fresh install... just an upgrade.
