PwnageTool 3.0 FOR OSX has been released by the Dev Team and can be downloaded from their blog

Some notes:

  • iPhone 3G owners that don't need to be unlocked feel free to upgrade and jailbreak.

  • iPhone 2G owners you are perfectly fine, create custom .ispw via PwnageTool and you'll be unlocked and jailbroken.

  • iPod Touch 1G, this will jailbreak your device

  • iPod Touch 2G, there is no 3.0 jailbreak yet

  • This DOES NOT work on the iPhone 3G S

  • and finally UltraSn0w is not out yet. If you have an iPhone 3G that NEEDS to be unlocked for you to use it wait until UltraSn0w is released before upgrading to 3.0 and Jailbreaking. This is unlikely unless you bought your 3G from overseas, remember all iPhones sold in NZ are factory unlocked.

Cheers

Has anyone tried jailbreaking for iPhone 3G OS 3.0 yet and can say it is safe to do it?
I am quite cautious when it comes to my iPhone.

This seems to revolve the YouTube issue. Working here on a 2G iPhone.

C4LV1N0, the information above is correct. You are ok to do it unless you need to be SIM unlocked, but IIRC the NZ VF iPhones are NOT locked.

And does it fix the location services being broken as well?

After I went from Beta 5-> Release Youtube and Location Services where broken...

I jailbroke using PwnageToll 3.0 in Expert Mode. Had to untick "Activate" in the General settings. It's working fine!

redsn0w has been released as well (Windows and Mac) See Details @

redsn0w jailbreak at unlockit.co.nz

Taken from the Dev-Team Blog

redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).
