I updated my iphone 3g Thursday and all was working great, love the landscape keyboard, love MMS so thought all was good ( my partner also has 3g iphone and did the same)

Now I only use the data on wifi or for the $1 per 10mb method and to do the vodafone one I have to change the data settings and put 3g on

well my sister was able to get online via vodafone data without me changing the data setting from www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz. to the correct one
To say I was surprised was a understatement. Then we tried to get online with my partners phone which we could do without changing any settings. this was not meant to be possible.

so we change the setting to .iphone-vodafone.net.nz and it will not work.

so thought I would tell you here incase this is happening to you also. I think its something to do with the new 3.0 software update settings.

anyway could get expense if it happens and you are not aware of it.

I thought that this was always the case for some time now. I had the impression handsets connected to Vodafone would by default use the Internet connection if an invalid APN is entered. This is to say that just entering an invalid APN is not enough to stop a device using the Internet - you have to turn it off or turn data options off.

check vodafone forums. things have changed. tethering has meant there have been backend changes at vodafone. they are going to set up a dummy "no connect" APN for those that don't want iPhones to use data.

all on account (and prepay from early next week) can now use iphone-vodafone.net.nz when using iPhone plan.
