mjb: Have you tried an older version of iTunes to do the downgrade (in DFU mode) ?
I found that when I accidentally upgraded to 2.0 on my 2G iPhone last year that I had to use a previous version of iTunes to downgrade to 1.1.4 again.
Pradip: Im pretty sure 3.0.1 will be out soon! Or I hope so - Im having problems when people call me (but that could be Vodafone) - But was fine on 2.2.1...so yea

chiefie: Is this on 1st Gen or 2nd Gen? I got iPhone OS 3.0 on 1st Gen iPod Touch 32GB and it's working fine.

tardtasticx: but i have to use some form of 8.2 (either the beta or official release) because they are the only ones that recognise ipod, all other versions tell me my ipod is incompatable because its made with another version of itunes. :(

Correct - which is why you must use DFU mode - note that this isn't the same as the "connect to iTunes" screen. If you successfully enter DFU mode, you'll only have a blank screen, but the device will be present as a USB device when you plug it into the PC. In fact, I think the device driver in windows actually says "iPhone in DFU mode connected" (or iPod).. but that's going back a long way in my memory.
