Apple won't lend us a 3GS to review on TVNZ for Wednesday, because the device isn't released until Friday. Despite the fact we could just order one in from Australia or something.

I'm sure they'd find a way of hijacking the delivery plane just so you couldn't get one from Australia.

I think the attitude is "we're going to sell millions anyway so screw the press".
To be honest, it's default Apple behaviour, so I shouldn't be surprised. But it's not like other devices that had worldwide release at the same time, so I thought they might be more lenient.

But it would make the NZ public the wiser, but then i would have to maybe stand in a line ( hmmm maybe not in old tiny Tauranga )

I might be a minority here, but I think it is great. It is treating everyone equally no matter what... so you are on TV, good for you, you've gotta stand in line just like everyone else. I think its refreshing compared to the whole review units given to media weeks in advance to drum up publicity. Maybe I'm just bitter as I don't get review units and I have to stand in line.

Don't get me wrong, it's PILES of fun to get review units, but it's not all glamour and bodypaint. I sh*t myself that I might drop or damage something I'm reviewing and have to pay for it :)

I recon they have denied alot of other people so dont want double standards? They made a policy I guess and have stuck with it?

I think in Bens line of work, he was coming from the angle of being able to show the public whats going to be on offer.

I don't think there was any inference whatsoever that he should personally get one in advance because he is on tv, more an expression of frustration that a device that Joe Bloggs general public can buy right now (and recieve same day if a friend is flying back) is being withheld on the basis that it has not been recieved here yet.

Got it in one Tony. It's amazing how many people think we reviewers get free everythings. 95% of it is loan forms and endless to-and-fro couriers. It also takes heaps of juggling to organise to have the right devices at the right time for live TV.

The best I've had is reviewing the Canon 5D Mark II before Christmas, then arranging to keep hold of it for the holidays. I almost wept when I had to return it. Awesome piece of kit, and I'll never have enough money to own one.
