I just got a message from sonmeone who has said...

"VF were nice enough to replace my iPhone 3G (on Friday 10/7/09) after the screen started to flicker (2 days before it went out of warrenty however it is now carrier locked to VodaCrap NZ.

I confirmed with vodafone that their policy of *not* carrier locked has changed, from last week all iPHones they sell *will* be carrier locked by Apple (at Vodafones request).

Just mentioning it in case anyone else has had a handset replaced last week (and my XT Sim card was recognised instantly in another *older* iPhone)."

This is true or anyone comment?

If this is true then the people at Vodafone really need to pull their heads in.

The way they have acted this last week over the iPhone is jaw dropping, as is the way that certain Vodafone people have behaved on this website, on twitter and on their own forums.vodafone.co.nz site. I am a Telecom customer and the way they have gone out of their way to make life difficult with regards to the iPhone on other carriers has only served to further cement my position that I never wish to be one of their customers.

Glad I got IBL then..

From the Apple NZ store:
iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and connect to
iTunes 8.2 to complete activation.2 Purchase limitations may apply.

I asked Paul Brislen and he says nothing has changed and Vodafone does not lock handsets.

We don't lock handsets and we haven't locked the iPhone handset and it's not locked.

To recap: Vodafone has not locked the iPhone handset.

It's not locked.

#unlockediphone

OK?

not locked.

Cheers

Paul

I will just lock this discussion because there isn't anything else to be said.
