I saw in a thread the other day that someone was complaining because there was no AppleCare for the iPhone in NZ

Yet... Here it is

IT's always there but it is a limited AppleCare for iPhone. It only covered for the country where the phone was bought from.

I think the other discussion was about buying an iPhone overseas, buying AppleCare and then trying to get warranty services here in New Zealand...

Firstly, thanks Tohe for bringing to my attention, it is good that it is now available.

As confirmed by Apple support, AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone has only been recently introduced. (it was prev available for iPod Touch but not iPhone 3G)

As APP for iPhone did not exist, Apple offered 12 mth hardware warranty and as a compromise, they offered 12mth phone support instead of the standard 90 days.

Now that APP for iPhone exists, the support for new purchases has reverted to standard 90 Days phone and 12mths Hardware, and the APP is only for 2 years from date of purchase. HW support/service only applies in the country of purchase. (other products have 3yr and international service/support)

If you are coming up to 12mths on your iPhone, might be a valuable purchase

I called AppleSupport to enquire about getting APP for my iPhone3G. Apple kindly informed me that my warranty had expired and would not be able to purchase APP as must be purchased in first 12 mths (within days). Fortunately was able to negotiate with customer care and details logged with the case so I will be able to register APP with this serial number. (possibly the amount of existing Apple Products we have - all under APP, and that it is only a couple of days over 12mths, helped influence the exception to rule)

What does applecare protect against? If I drop my iPhone in the toilet does it protect agiainst that?

How much is contents insurance too? I'm at uni and my desk has 24" monitor, PS3, new laptop, ext HD and 5.1 logitech speakers and soon to be iPhone so maybe I should invest?

It is warranty not insurance. If you get liquid in your iPhone your AppleCare is void
