Im having a strage problem with the wifi on my iPhone 3gs. I have had his problem from the first day i recieved the phone. This is an issue with wifi, not mobile data. Most of the time my wifi works fine, however often i have the following problem. I have this problem when i am using apps that require wireless. The error i get is:

Cannot open page
Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding.

I cannot work out the cause, or the pattern behind this. I have searched for others with the same problem. Many people get the same error, but i dont believe they have the same problem. Most others have DNS problems, i have ruled this out. It is not a signal or bandwidth problem either. Its not caused by internet outages. I use other devices on my wireless network with no problems, so i dont think its the wireless router.

It seems to happen every 5 minutes, for about 5 minutes. These numbers change drastically, almost to the point of seeming completely random.

Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone have advice? This is starting to seriously bug me.

Thanks for the help

Is it only on your own WiFi network? In that case have you tried changing the channel your router is using? It could be interference from nearby networks...

Im not sure if its just mine. Iv used other wireless networks but i haven't used them long enough to notice. Ill have to try the next time i have a chance.

Iv changed the channel. I dont think thats the problem though, i cant detect any other networks nearby.

I downgrade my wifi from b/g to b only. Maybe that will help.

Before I downgraded my wifi to b only, my iPhone 3g 2.2 couldn't even use wifi to watch YouTube. After I did it, my iPhone download speed went flying from 100k to 4500k. Now I use iPhone 3.0, but I still use b only to get consistent download speed and wifi connection. It just reduced the wifi range, b only doesn't affect my Internet speed speed at all.

My b/g works with my PC and MacBook. But not with my smartphones. Titan worked very slow over wifi at 150kps, iPhone at 112kps. But my mac speed was 4600 easily with b/g. Clearly there is some wifi problem with some smartphones.

Remember you can configure WiFi access points to not broadcast their identity. They are still there, you just can't see them without sniffing programs.

I just upgraded to a new router with n cabability, dont really want to off : ( I need to the range for other devices.

Do you have n turned on? I had to wind my router back to b/g only to get reliability for the Touch at least......

I have a similar issue with an ipod touch. I used to have no problems with the touch then a while ago my touch stopped working altogether, it went in for repair and a new one was returned. Since i got the new one, every now and again it seems to not be able to communicate with the router and eventually returns the 'Cannot open page' message.

Turning wifi off and back on again lets me continue to do whatever i am doing but the issue always seems to come back again, sometimes straight away sometimes a day or so later. I have looked for other networks using the same channel and there don't seem to be any and none of the computers have a problem with the network so have presumed it was an issue with the touch
