Has there been any news of Telecom supplying the iPhone?

I'm aware of their iPhone plan deal, but have been holding off on an iPhone 3GS purchase in the hope that Telecom NZ will become an official supplier.

Are Telecom still talking to Apple?

Thanks.

Chris.

I really have no idea why Apple isn't agreeing with Telecom. Telecom have said they want it. Not sure why it still hasn't come

I don't think Telecom have added any new handsets from any manufacturer since the launch of XT (could be mistaken - but lineup still decidedly boring anyway)

They added the Sony Erricson one that came out, but why does that affect the iphone situation?

...and back on topic please! :-)

Does anyone have any information about Telecom officially supplying the iPhone?

Thanks!

You are not going to get any sort of reliable response here so not sure why you're asking!

Even IF there was some sort of agreement in the pipeline, there would be huge NDA requirements meaning that those that DO have any sort of reliable information cannot let you or I know about it.

Anyone that does give you a response one way or the other is offering an opinion of pure speculation

Yes. If you looked here at the speculation before it came out, then Telecom should alrwady have the iPhone. But they don't so we must have been wrong

Wouldn't Vodafone have an exclusive agreement with Apple to be the only supplier for a fixed term?

Nah its not "exculusive". but atm they are, i guess, the exclusive provider. But they have said themselves that the deal with apple is not exclusive

I asked this question at a TUANZ After 5 presentation on the XT network hosted by Telecom/Gen-i this week. The response I got (from the Gen-i Mobile Marketing guy doing the presentation) was:-

You can go buy an iPhone-3GS from the Apple Store, or from that red-coloured vendor for that matter, and it will work fine on the Telecom XT network, but no, TNZ/Gen-i isn't planning on (re-)selling iPhones (although Gen-i could of course arrange corporate supply deals for major customers).

Vodafone have a non-exclusive contract with Apple to supply the iPhone, which also happened to be a natural monopoly as Vodafone was the only GSM/UTMS network in New Zealand.

They still have a non-exclusive contract with Apple, but now there are two GSM and two UTMS networks in New Zealand.
