Have an iPhone 3GS on XT. Over the weekend I updated it to 3.1.2 and re-jailbroke it using black rain. Since I have updated it, when I go on safari or check my email using 3g, its comes up with "Could not activate cellular data network" about 60% of the time. If I turn the phone on and off it starts working again, or if I leave it a while, it will start working again. Just after I updated it to the new software and before I jailbroke it, it was doing the same thing so im pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the jailbreak.

Any Idea's and is anyone else having ther same problem?

Cheers

I'm having the same problem. I also have a 3GS on XT running the latest firmware and my phone isn't jailbroken. I've had the iPhone for about 1.5 months and have had this problem since day one but not very often. Ever since yesterday it's been doing it 60%-70% of the time with the same warning message coming up. Like you if I turn off and on it will work or give it 30 seconds or so and it works again.

I've tried resetting the network settings: settings>general>reset>reset network settings. but this hasn't helped.

Anyone have any more idea as this is highly frustrating!

Thanks.

edit: Forgot to mention I'm on XT prepaid and have a data bundle which has plenty of data left for the month.

I don't know whether it was related or not but I had issues on XT over the weekend with my LG CU515....had to search for ages to find the network, when it was found came up with 'not registered for network' or something similar. Came right on sunday night and has been fine since.

As an update...went out tonight and tried for about 10 mins with no luck to get 3g data going. Same message everytime. Gave up for about 5 minutes then tried again. In this time mail did an update (using imap and gmail, with push on) so things came right while my iPhone was in my pocket. But upon trying again I once again had no data. When I got home a turned off the wifi option and for a number of hours no problems with mobile data. Turned wifi back on and went out of my range and once again no problems with mobile data. Don't know if this means anything though. Will see how things go tomorrow.

I've been experiencing the same problem, but only since updating to 3.1.2. I'm also on the XT network.
I need tethering back too, so will be downgrading to 3.0.1 over the weekend and will update this thread if the situation improves.

Went out tonight and tried for about 20 minutes but no cell data at all. Then decided to change my APN to wap.telecom.co.nz ever since doing that I've had cell data working for about 3 hours with no problems. Anyone know of any reason not to just leave it with the above APN if it's working?

Thankyou so much for that tip about using wap.telecom.co.nz.

I had exactly the same problem this morning - data not working at all despite a good signal etc - and changing to wap.telecom.co.nz has completely fixed it.

Does anyone know what has happened ? I have been using internet.telecom.co.nz with my 3gs for a couple of months with no problems, but for the last few days I have been intermittently getting the "Could not activate cellular data network" problem, followed today by over 30 minutes of no data at all.

You can actually tether with 3.1.2 now as long as you are evil and have jailbroken.. there are lots of instructions on the net on how to do it.

Thanks

Interesting update. I changed my apn back to Internet.telecom.co.nz last night and things worked no problem. Out and about now and things are once again no problem. Will give it time and see what happens.
