Hi
Since I updated to 3.1.2 on my 3gs I have noticed a real decrease in battery life. Any pne else or is it just me?

It feels just like the OS version 3.0 which was bad - 1 day + 3-6 hours max according to the "time since last full charge" in usage settings.

I use 3g, hardly any Wifi, no push, manually get calendar and contacts info from google, and use teh browser maybe 20 mins a day.

thoughts? I hope it's something I've missed in the last update (ie forgotton to turn off etc)

Cheers
Pete

You will find lots of people complaining about battery life after 3.0 and also WiFi issues seem to have come up of late in the Apple Discussion Groups  Frown

Hmmm....I'll have a look. it's just the new one though. After the 3.1 update I was very happy. the 3.0 drained so fast I had to turn off 3G unless I wanted to use it. Then 3.1 fixed all that crap.

*sigh*

we need new battery technology.

Battery tech seems fine on other phones.. Perhaps you need to the control freaks at Apple to allow 3rd party solutions...

Hi,
I'm not sure whether this is relevant, but I'd guess that since you're using the same hardware as you were before, then it could certainly be a software issue (maybe your phone really doesn't like 3.1.2), or something else may have changed. I found that battery life suffered after an update so I checked in settings & found that a few items were enabled that I didn't need - under settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar I turned off fetch New Data, turned off Push, set Fetch to Manual, then scrolled down to Advanced & set the Fetch there to Manual. I also only turn on Location Services & Bluetooth when needed. I had switched off Notifications previously, but now can't find where that setting is (maybe I deleted the app I had that could utilize it) but I believe it often checks for any app updates, so was not really needed.
I know we shouldn't have to worry about all these things the device should be able to do, but they did seem to suck a lot of juice for me & weren't really helping me out much....worth a try.....

Cheers,
Mike

I thought it went bad since jailbraking with blackrain. So last night I use pwanage tool and will see how it goes. I play alot with the theme also and use lock screen info etc which I know will drain the battery quicker.

I will post back in a day or so will the results.

This is why i have resisted going to 3.whatever thus far.

I guess one day ill take the plunge.

I use my iphone as my alarm clock(mrs uses the main alarm clock as her later alarm) and im scared my battery will run out overnight and ill sleep in lol!!

The force is strong with this one!

Huge improvement using pwanage tool guys! I still get a bit less than the unbroken phone but its the features that I require.
