Hey mate,

I recently upgraded to 3.1.2 and unlocked/jailbroke using Blackra1n. Simplicity itself. Easiest ever. Uses bootneuter so the baseband isnt an issue as I understand it.

Guide here:

http://www.redmondpie.com/jail.../

I did use 3.0 originally but found i couldnt get MMS working and it had the contacts issue again.
Updated to 3.1.2 and got MMS working by following this guide:

http://pineappleiphone.com/mms.../

IMPORTANT: do not use this MMS hack on anything other than 3.1.2. Gave me a stuffed up, constantly restarting phone. Had to restore again.

Thanks - I had some issues with the 3.1 upgrade, specifically with the unlocking side of things so I downgraded to 3.0.1

Used the following guide:
http://www.tech-exclusive.com/2009/06/20/guide-to-jailbreak-and-unlock-iphone-2g-os-3-0-with-redsnow/

The one thinf to note is that redsnow 0.8 has a problem with the 3.0.1 custom ipsw file so you have to use the 3.0 custom ipsw file to do the actual redsnow part of things  i.e jailbreak and unlock.

Using the 3.0.1 custom ipsw gave a 'error with file not known/found'.

Custom 3.0 ipsw can be found at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Note I didn't follow any 3.1 to 3.0.1 downgrade instructructions i.e like http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-iphone-3.1-to-3.0.1/.

My phone is jail broken and unlocked i.e works on the VF network.
