Why are the iPad threads chucked in here and not in the Mac section?
The iPad is Not a phone nor a pocketable device or are all the net-book threads going into mobile sections too?
It is the first totally hands on personal Mac computer.

It is a mobile device, though.

And it doesn't run full OS X.

The iPad runs the same OS as the iPhone, so it fits in this section.

Mac OSX "Mobile" doesn't mean "mobile phone".

It's also not a full computer since it needs to be "paired" with a real computer running iTunes in order to do software updates, etc.

It may share a similar OS to the iPhone, at least it isn't windows...

The iPad is still a Computer for:
Photos, Writing & playing Keynotes, Setting up Spreadsheets & Writing Documents.
Plus Internet surfing, Forum posting, eMailing, Book reading, Music, Game Playing, Movie watching stuff that's enjoyed in a lazyboy chair.

But there are also versions with 3g and A-GPS so does that make it closer to a phone or still the touch....can argue this both ways.

OK. So Mac OS (latest OS 3.1.3) for iPads, iPhones & iPod Touches goes in the Mac OSX Mobile section and OSX (latest OSX 10.6) for MacBook Pros etc goes in the Mac OS section.
There is no such thing as Mac OSX (Operating System Ten) Mobile.

The forum name was decided when the iPhone came out. Back then there wasn't anything firm or decided about it.

Do you have to make everything a contentious argument?

If you want to be anal about it, the OS on the iPhone and iPod Touch is called iPhone OS. The OS on the iPad is (unofficially) called iPad OS.

Mac OS was the old OS shipped with original Macs.

But everyone in this forum will have no problems seeing Mac OSX Mobile as the OS running on the aforementioned devices.

A decision has been made to put a computer in with pocketable mobile devices because it has a similar Operating System to a couple of other mobile devices.
I do not agree with that decision but if that's the way it stays at least remove the X from the operating system name in the title.

I don't agree with name calling, bully boy tactics either.
I understood this to be a forum for discussion, not a kindergarten playground.

Sorry but did you watch the keynote speech given by Steve Jobs?
I think he has the end say....

Apple is a mobile device company. By revenue, Apple is the largest mobile device company in the world.

Steve: "We think we've got the goods. We think we've got it." With over 75 million iPhones and iPod touches sold, we've got over 75 million people who already know how to use the iPad. Over 125 million iTunes accounts with over 12 billion products downloaded. We're ready for the iPad.

I agree with removing the X from the OS title, but he has always said the iPad is a mobile device and always compares it to other Apple mobile devices, never to any of the computer range of devices.

There's no bullying or name calling in this thread, but I can see you are getting all up on a small detail from your point of view. There are other points of view.

I don't think this forum says anything about 'pocketable' devices. Bear in mind that the term 'mobile devices' does not exclusively apply to mobile phones.

I agree with removing the X, but Mac OS Mobile would also be wrong, wouldn't it? There should be a referendum for these things. ;D

Name calling and bully boy tactics are not tolerated here. I failed to see where these were used in this thread so far, but maybe that's just me.
