So, from today Opera Mini browser is available for iPhone. Did you try it out? How are you finding it than the default iPhone browser Safari?

For me, I like Safari. I am not seeing much value being added 'to the browsing' by Opera Mini (unless you want to open a desktop version of a web site). Opera Mini is also not rendering the web sites in iPhone mode, instead just the mobile mode. So, you will find web site different browsing in Safari and Opera Mini - For example.  nzherald.co.nz and tvnz.com - both render in iPhone mode in Safari, but not in Opera Mini.

So, what are your thoughts?

Chaks

personally i like the tabs.. i know in safari you can have multiple pages, but find that switching between tabs quicker and easier.

I really enjoyed using Opera Mobile (Java) version on my LG mobile, but being Java based was very limiting.

I do really like this very of Opera though.. very nicely done. It has a nice setup, and renders pretty well.. Its a change to Safari, if you aren't much of a fan

The whole pinch dynamic is a bit messed up. But I do like the tabs. Will keep on trying it I guess and see which wins me over.

Great Apple approved it!
I just tried it out - the scrolling isn't as smooth as all other iPhone apps as I guess they don't use the built-in Apple scrolling functionality. On WiFi, nzherald.co.nz actually loaded faster on Safari compared to Opera Mini!

Personally I will keep using Safari on my iPhone.

I was also surprised that Apple approved it, good on them.

Wish they were bringing real multitasking though, where apps run actively in the background (like they do on my HD2, and did on my S60 handsets), I have quite a few use cases where I need it...

I personally consider a rewriting proxy that rewrites both HTTP and HTTPS connections to be too much of a security liability for me to use.

I'm just about to download it from the app store, so I'll see how I feel about it.
Personally quite like Safarai, having come from S60 browsers, but was using S60 version of Opera mini on my 5800 so will be interesting to see how it compares.

It is faster on the majority of pages than safari. However the zoom, scale and lack of auto correct is a pain.

For those using it, enter in the address bar

It does have a few pluses if you're on a prepay plan. You can save data by changing the settings so that only low or medium resolution images are loaded (the pages first travel through Opera's servers where they are compressed), or no images at all. Also, the 'back' button reflects what happens on Opera's desktop browser, in that it jumps back a page without reloading it - more data savings.

I, too, think the zoom sucks a bit with no pinch. The quickdial first page and the tabs are nice.

I couldn't agree more. I don't know what everyone is raving about, because simply out: It sucks.

Even the whole tab thing doesn't appeal to me. Im perfectly fine with Safari.

Opera has a LONG way before it even comes remotely close to being my normal browser on the iPhone.
