Ok, so I know this question has been asked a number of times, but they're basically out of date or don't quite answer the question. So my question is:

What do I need to look for when buying an iphone from Ebay in order for it to work on the XT network (i.e unlocked, jailbroken, 3g etc)? I am currently halfway through a 2 year contract with XT and want to continue with this. Ideally the newer the version of the phone the better, however I would settle for an older model.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

I read that if the iphone is running 3.1.3 firmware then it can re-lock itself.. Is that the case with a 3g iphone that currently runs 3.1.3 and is currently unlocked? Or did the re-locking situation occur with the 2g phones??

Would love some help here and an explanation!

Cheers

Why not buy in NZ from apple. The 8gb 3GS is available now at $899 here - http://store.apple.com/nz/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=OTY2ODA0NQ

I'd be extremely cautious of purchasing an iPhone from eBay.

There's no warranty, it's likely at the end of its battery life and there's no guarantee you'll get what you actually pay for - i.e. advertised as 3GS and receive a 3G - physically identical - quite different internally.

I'd look closer to home or maybe even suck it up and get a new one from a reliable source for more $$...it may cost less in the long run.

Yea but I reckon 300 bucks is worth the risk. As long as it works.. If it lasts for 6 months then whats $300.. That way I get to see if I really would want to spend some real money and buy a new one.. + all iphones on Ebay are second hand so as long as I ask heaps of questions its pretty safe

Cheers

It's your money.

Personally, I wouldn't be going there.

I was also advised by Vodafone that it voids the warranty if you insert an XT sim into the phone when I tried to source one for one of my users that was't able to use Vodafone because of coverage issues.

So if you by from Apple locally you may want to double check on this when using on XT.

This is just some sales person trying to spread FUD and lock you into Vodafone so he can make some commission.

Or do you think every sales person is ethical and honest?

What about connecting to XT though? The lower frequency might lead to mega hurts depletion and increased user penetration. Surely that'd void your warranty?
