My wife's friend just emailed us from NZ and wants us to get her husband a iphone 4G here in the UK. A quick
search of the 16GB model was £611 (NZ$1331.33) of course there would be GST and postage on top of that as well. I would rather wait until the NZ prices are released and then compare. maybe she wants her husband to be one of the first with an iphone 4 (Yeah right)

The question, will it be any cheaper buying over here or not. (I say no)

Thoughts.

Ha ha...that'll be the Apple iPhone 7, I'd say...LTE, well after it's available the world over.

You won't have AppleCare for iPhone as it doesn't cover international warranty. Should something happen, and you need repair, you will have to send it back to UK. Not worth the while.

Buy it locally, or nearby, not across the globe.

So let me get this right, you wife's friend thinks that buying a product that includes VAT at 17.5% and then paying 12.5% GST will likely be cheaper than simply paying 12.5% GST.

The UK is one of the more expensive places to buy apple products,

And that is without mentioning all the issues with warranties etc.

Huh? 16Gb SimFree in the UK is GBP499.
If you can sort a way to buy it and get the VAT refund then you're looking at a pretty good price - I'll be in London in the next week and trying to find somewhere that sells them under the VAT refund scheme (don't believe Apple Store does). Looking at around NZD900 at current exchange rate if I can do that.
However if you're buying online and getting shipped then I believe VAT refund is almost impossible, plus you'll get GST, plus customs fee, plus postage so hell no will it be cheaper!
