We had a bit of a play with the Vodafone numbers, and reckon it would work out roughly like this -

Plan                                       $40         $60        $80        $130       $250
break fee 0-6 months              $450        $480      $700      $880       $1,050
break fee 0-6 months + GST    $506        $540       $788      $990       $1,181
16GB VF price                          $619       $569       $519      $319       $0
32GB VF price                          $799       $749       $699      $499       $179
cost 16                                   $1,125    $1,109    $1,307    $1,309    $1,181
cost 32                                   $1,305    $1,289    $1,487    $1,489    $1,360

If you cancel immediately after buying you probably get back a pro-rate amount of your first month's fee. Might be worth checking out, otherwise you have to add that onto the price as well. In that case obviously the $60 plan is the one to go for...

EDIT: Now with ETC GST goodness...

Are you adding GST on the early termination fee? Not too sure how you got your numbers there..

Those are directly off the price list on the Vodafone website. That pages says prices are GST inclusive for the purchases, but the ETCs are exclusive. We'll redo that...

I was looking at this! Maybe 2degrees should come out with plans like XT did last year...

I was just thinking... People like phone subsidy's. Why don't 2degrees keep the no contract thing but... Have like a HP scheme, and for every month the customer is with them $x gets taken off the HP.

Thanks for doing this.

if someone is plannoing on using a lot of data, they are probabky better off on the iphone40 plan, and waiting until October to end contract to take advantage of the the 3GB of data for free.

this depends on what prices for Data 2D come out with in the near future of course.

Did you read his post in its entirety? He made a different but still possibly valid assumption. I'm sure you can do the maths.

We're pretty sure you get a pro-rate refund of the unused month, so if you cancel straight away you get almost all of it back. But you'd have to confirm that with your friendly Vodafone rep. ;-)
