Have put together a quick total cost of ownership comparison over 24 months for the iPhone 4, including:
 - Purchasing on a Vodafone iPhone contract
 - Purchasing on a Vodafone Plan but terminating your contract early
 - Purchasing outright in NZ
 - Purchasing outright from Aussie if you are heading over there at some stage (including GST rebate)

Thanks for making this. Confirmed my maths is correct.

The difference for me if I end up terminating comes to about $5 plus one months service. Not bad especially given the 3GB deal atm. I'm going to be waiting to see what 2 degrees offer in the 3g space before terminating

Great work Sparky and many thanks!

What's the latest on iPhone warranties (particularly ones from AUS) - are they valid here in NZ?
Seriously considering a Aus iPhone - can get it in my hands tomorrow!

You do realise that virtually every retailer in Aussie has sold out as well since they also had extremely limited quantities?

How do you make the $24 monthly ongoing charge? I'm finding it pretty hard to get a decent plan assembled for that low.

(Decent for me would be modest to zero calls, but plenty of data - at least 500Mb)

If you manage to get one, you won't get warranty cover in NZ but I think if you buy applecare you do get covered.

$24 is equal to 4 $6 'extras' on Telelcom XT, which is about what I use. E.g. 240mb + TXT150 (excluding the impact of top-up discounts etc.)

If you would spend more or less each month you can download the spreadsheet and update the grey cell to see which way works best.
