I have heard that Facetime on the iPhone 4 does not work on XT, yet Apple sells the iPhone on their website "carrier unlocked", which would make me think that it would work on XT. Has anyone tried using Facetime on XT with an iPhone purchased here in NZ? Do you think it would work if the phone was purchased from the Apple online store?

It doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it's a network issue. The following will answer all your questions:

FaceTime now works on XT.... just not for ported numbers (but that's a worldwide issue and not just XT).

Cheers
