I can't get mine to pai with my laptop or my old mobile, they both try to connect to my iPhone but without success.

The iPhone has disovered the laptop but cannot connect to it.  It doesn't see my old phone at all and on the bluetooth screen the rotating loading symbol thing is constantly going round next to where it says Devices.

I've tried resetting the network settings, but no joy there.

As far as im aware the bluetooth on the iPhone is only for the purpose of headsets and keyboards, and internet tethering.

Pairing with an older mobile for things like file sharing doesn't work, even iphone to iphone i dont think you can yet share files unless it jailbroken.

Its very annoying and quite useless from that point of view.

and how new or old is the laptop? i know mine pairs fine with my macbook, but only for internet tethering, nothing else.

as above, your bascially dont do that on an iphone, however you can tether it via bluetooth to your laptop if you want to use the internet via your phone

So how to you retrieve videos and photos taken from the iPhone? Is this all done via iTunes and iPhoto (if you have a Mac)?

Also for mac or pc Iphone explorer, its a free download, just google it. although i use phone disc on my mac, also free.

Photos are in a folder called DCIM or something like that.

If your phone is jailbroken, you can explore all the files. ( playing with any is very risky though)
