Hi Guys,

Not sure if this topic is allowed on here, please remove asap if not.

So my sister was having trouble with her iPhone 3G so I went to restore it. Didn't realise she bought it from Trademe and it's originally an overseas model. So after I restore it to the 3.1.3 firmware (downloaded the file 'iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore'-
from a website), all I'm getting is the screen which indicates I need to plug it in to iTunes to activate it. Of course, when plugged in, it tells me "The SIM card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported"

What is my first step in unlocking it? I believe that it's easy to do from within Cydia but at the moment I cannot get past the activation screen. I've come across the term "hactivation" in my research so far but am struggling

At the moment, I'm following the instructions on this site : http://www.ilikemyiphone.com/2010/02/09/download-custom-firmware-3-1-3-ipsw-jailbreak-activate-unlock-iphone-3g-3gs-mac-windows/

using the files from this section:

  • Download the following files ONLY if you don’t have an iPhone contract (T-Mobile and others…)

Any help appreciated,

Cheers

Two options..

OPTION1:

OSX: Use PwnageTool http://www.blogiphone.fr/PwnageTool_4.01.dmg

open your ipsw, go to expert settings, and tick hactivation, then create your ipsw, restore your iphone with the ipsw you just made.

OPTION2:

PC: download and install redsn0w http://xs1.iphwn.org/rs/redsn0w-win_0.9.2.zip

pretty much follow the instructions..

--

THEN:

Then open cydia and add the repo "repo666.ultrasn0w.com" then install ultrasn0w, reboot your phone and you should be good as gold ^^

Don't think I used redsnow. When I tried to restore the customised 3.1.3 firmware it just kept giving errors. So I made the custom 3.1.2 one with Pwnage and restored that on to the phone without any trouble. So now I can get to the springboard, I just need to unlock it..
