Hi all

Im going to Aussie next weekend for work, specificallyl the gold coast.
Does anyone know of any reputable sellers in the gold coast?
With claiming the GST back at the Airport i can save a little over the NZ price here.

Remember you'll still legally need to declare it when you enter NZ and pay GST at this end.

There's an Apple store at Robina which isn't too far away.

I was charged $65 GST on the 64GB 3G model when I brought it back in from Australia in June (first time ever despite years of bringing electronics into the country), but it still worked out slightly cheaper than buying it here, but just make sure you factor in that you may be charged GST when you come back to NZ. It's hit and miss, but as long as you're aware of it.

I recently went through the same exercise and unless you are paying in cash and know the exchange rates you are probably better off getting it in NZ. Claiming the AU GST back is a breeze, just need to present the item and the GST receipt after going through customs. The credit turns up on your CC about a week later.

If there is a JB HiFi where you are heading, they have it for slightly cheaper than all other places I looked. I paid by VISA so they whack a fee onto the transaction ($30 in my case), and their exchange rate was .7904 so don't expect any favors there either. The rate they gave me from the GST back was 0.8116. Most AU shops will offer you a NZ price when you pay by CC (via the EFTPOS machine), again know your exchange rates.

If you end up paying GST on your return and you pay by CC then it will probably end up costing you more than getting it here.

Yep, you really should just get it in NZ for convenience sakes. If it is a DOA, it makes life easier for you too.

I actually found the process of claiming back GST upon departure to be a bit of a hassle. The queue at Melbourne Airport was full of idiots who hadn't researched the refund scheme and insisted on wasting time arguing when they were turned away so I ended up waiting half an hour before eventually getting my claim processed. I thought I'd allowed plenty of time but by the time I got to the gate my aircraft was a few minutes away from boarding.

Anyone who is planning to reclaim GST on departure needs to be aware that they could be in for a wait, and plan their time accordingly.
