I originally posted under the HTPC forum (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84&topicid=68366) but haven't had any responses so I thought I'd raise the question here.

Can anybody recommend a good remote control app for controlling Windows 7 Media Center?

Thanks

I downloaded one called 'ncontrol'. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Uses your wifi network and ties to your mediacentre PC (you install a little bit of software on your HTPC).

Might give it a try myself this weekend.

Exactly what are you after?  A straight remote control with just the basic navigation functions, or a two way type setup where you can browse your music library etc from your phone when in another room?

I guess I'm looking for a fairly basic remote with navigation buttons, buttons for My Music, Recorded TV, Windows Green Button, DVD etc. The ability to browse the music library, EPG, etc from another room would be pretty cool but are features I don't think I'd use a lot.

Yikes! An expensive solution. I was hoping there would be something in the free to $5 category! Thanks for the suggestion.  I might still take a look at it.

I have found HippoRemote which looks like it will do the job. Has anybody used it?

I have Gmote on my Android Samsung Galaxy S that allows me to "browse music library etc from your phone when in another room" - if that's any help. Using that I can select/control music on my laptop from another room using my phone over the home WiFi. I'm pretty sure you can set it up to control videos as well.

I also have Remote Droid on my phone - that allows me to control the cursor on my laptop from my phone using the home WiFi. The touch screen on the phone replicates the touchpad on the laptop.

They each do different stuff but are both good and cool in their own right. Both are free (or cheap if not free) apps available on Android Market.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

In case any other Windows Media Centre users stumble across this thread I've found an app called inControl which looks like exactly what i'm after. Only 1.49 to purchase. Now if I only had an iPhone to install it on. 1 week to go.
