Hi gz users,

I have just ordered my new Apple TV, cant wait to get it!

Was just after some feedback and thoughts from any users on here have rented movies/episodes.

- What broadband connection are you on?
- Your speedtest.net stats if possible?
- Does HD stream well?
- Does SD stream well?
- Keep it or TradeMe it?

Also does anyone happen to know the DL speed required for SD/HD on the Apple TV?

Thanks in advance :)

Its only $170 :S it can go on TradeMe for a small loss or maybe some possible JB action.

on the old apple tv, i was on 2-3Mbits and i had to buffer a normal quality movie for about 10 mins before playing it. with adsl2 you should be able to watch a HD straight away (im doing a lot of streaming via vpn on netflix through adsl2 and its fine).

My new Apple TV arrived last week.

So to answer your questions:

- Telecom Pro (40GB)
- 10.35/0.80Mb to Auckland
- Yes
- Yes
- Keep it

Movies are ready to play after just a few seconds of downloading, no lag or stutter, quality is good, and this is over a wireless connection too.

Easy to use, remote is nice, iPad/iPhone remote app is handy, is very tiny and blends in well in a home theatre setup, it actually sleeps this time not like the last model which either stayed on or you pulled the plug out to turn it off.

I like it.

You should be fine, especially if it's wired to your router, otherwise you might just have to wait slightly longer until it's ready to play. It knows when it's buffered enough as a message will pop up asking if you want to start playing it or wait. Until that message pops up you can't manually start it.

More importantly...

No XBMC, nor a slot for Crystal HD card & 1080p loving :)

Methinks Gen 1 is still a nicer deal, it's hard to build a similar form factor HTPC by hand.
