Looks like the GNU license may prevent a lot of great software from being released for the Apple platform....

yeah i'm not overly impressed with it either. Plays AVIs fine, but haven't managed to get it to stream anything from my PVR - as the regular video app keeps taking over and trying to pick up the stream.

So if I've got it downloaded and it gets removed from app store, will it delete itself in the near future?

It's yours as long as it will run on a machine. If you downloaded it on your device directly OTAthen when you sync next with iTunes do the right click on the device and transfer purchases.
