Apologies if this is better suited to the htpc forum, but have posted here as it involves iphone apps.

I have both the Hipporemote pro and itunes remote apps on my iphone 3gs and am having trouble connecting to my htpc via wifi.  My htpc is connected to my home network by wifi.  It is a dlink dwl-g510, which i admit is a few years old.  I have the stock thomson TG585 v8 wireless modem.

I have installed and setup the hipporemote pc application as per its instructions.  But the iphone app won't always connect to my pc.  If it does, it works fine, everything is functional.  I can close the app (including closing it from the multitasking hub), then reopen it straight away and it will reconnect.  However if I leave it 10-15mins, then it won't reconnect.  Even when left open in the multitasking tray, it still won't reconnect.

A similar thing happens with the itunes remote app.  It will connect, then 15min later it won't.

Closing the apps and reopening doesn't work, rebooting the iphone doesn't work, resetting the wireless card or even rebooting the pc doesn't work.  The only thing that does, it resetting the wireless router.

I have tried port forwarding but made no difference.  I'm using Windows Firewall, previously had AVG free and now have avast antivirus free.  Disabling these made no difference.  Is there something else I am missing, or is it really a combination of old wireless card and average modem? I don't see the point in upgrading those just to use these apps.
