My iphone 4 is having a problem where I have full strength signal and '3G' (XT network) is displayed in the top bar yet when I try to use cellular data nothing happens.
Ive had my IP4 since release and this issue has only happened 3 times but its annoying as it lasts for about an hour and anything i try to do doesn't get 3g data going=restart phone, off/on phone, turn phone to airplane mode, off/on 3g data switch.

It seems to start working by itself after about an hour.
While this is happening the phone goes through A LOT of battery power (40% maybe) even though im not doing anything. maybe theres some background process thats stuffed up?

I dont think its XT going bung.

Should i try restoring phone?

Have you tried resetting the network settings under Settings>General>Reset?

I got frustrated with it so I did a full restore (not from backup)
So i'll see how that goes.

Thanks ill try the network reset if it acts up again.

and check the APN is set to internet.telecom.co.nz, otherwise you won't be connecting to anything in a hurry.

Go to iphonewzealand.co.nz for the full set of APN details for XT

Yeah my apn settings are correct. I use the iPhone nz apn settings app.

After restoring the phone last night I had no cellular data service this morning even at full signal and 3G data displayed. It came right after about an hour:(
It kills my battery too! I'd be down to 30% from full morning charge.

This issue is happening more frequently now.
No 3G data, battery drains fast for no reason and I've noticed the phone gets kind of the warm side of things when it's acting up.

I'm using a cut down Xt sim card which has worked fine up until now. Just thinking as I've run out of ideas. :(
