Seems pretty good so far, saw someone in the other threat wishing there was an official one, here it is.

Searching for property and setting number of rooms etc, there is no button to return back to the main screen when done. Arg

I might be poking a stick into a hornets nest here as I am non iPhone user, BUT what does this app do that cannot be done with the phones browser?

I can access the functions on TradeMe quite nicely on my phone without needing any apps to do so.  Just wondering why an app is needed on an iPhone.

And that's a good question. Today I watched a presentation where the idea was "develop for a mobile web first, make it flexible so that it also shows on a desktop browser".

Also another point was that although the iPhone was a "sensation", it was still only 4% of the U.S. molbile handset market - meaning any company that focus on a single platform is leaving a huge number of potential users out in the cold.

I can't understand either...

Then again, I'm not 100% sure Trademe "gets" mobile at all anyway. I just checked on my phone and - yup - you still can't browse anything in the mobile view. Why not? Is there a technical reason that they don't think you should be browsing on your phone? Or are they still thinking in dollar terms ("if we can't monetize it, why bother"). To be honest, having played with it a bit, you're not missing much if you don't have an iPhone. It's a shinier GUI, and that's about it.

Oh, and push notifications of closing auctions I guess.

I can view the the full TradeMe site as well on my phone and get the features/functions that the mobile site doesn't have. I can have email push as well to get any auction closing emails, though I dont't bother with that.

Back to my original question, Why is an app needed for the iPhone? Why would a website owner bother spending the money to develop such an app?
