What is the point in getting an iPad. Seriously, what makes it worth it and how does it fail?

The next version is due out early next year, and that should be a lot better. It should have a camera for video facetime calling and hopefully a retina display too.

Try using one and you'll be able to answer that question for yourself. I love using one but could I survice without it? Yes.

Good: portability, YouTube, Internet, gaming, mail, battery life, movies, great for using when on the couch, in bed, in an airport lounge.

I wondered that before I bought one and I'm glad I did buy one. I use it every day, mostly in bed in the morning and night for web browsing and video streaming from the laptop. On a recent trip I used it in place of a laptop for almost a week; using the iphone as a wifi (jailbroke the phone just for that purpose). Next time I'm getting the 3G one as it would have been handy to have the GPS on it instead of the iPhone in the van just for the screen size.

+1 - You'll only be able to answer and decide for yourself if you need one until you try it out yourself.  We've got the camera connector kit as well and we find it really useful, it can be kind of like a really portable digital photo media card (SD card) backup and portable photo viewer too.

What is the point of posting such a question on Geekzone? Seriously, what makes it worth it and how does it fail?

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Just a typical question from a geek. It completely ignores the human element. By far the biggest factor in deciding whether an ipad is "worth it" is your own personal tastes, wealth and priorities. Some people may have a specific need for some of the functionality or the portability. Some people may just like it for the cool design, or may just love Apple products. Some people may think it's far too expensive. Some people may think it's a good deal at the current prices. Some might be prepared to pay twice as much for it. They are all right.

For me Im curious too - they look cool and all but really what can you do with it?
I guess he is asking : what is an IPAD?  what do yopu do with it? why would I want one what would I do with it?

personally my question is still : Why get an Ipad if you already have a laptop?

For me the biggest FAIL for the Ipad is lack of Flash player = no playing farmville LOL

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

I'm not sure if I should buy a toaster or a sandwich press. Should I start a new thread on Geekzone about my inability to understand what features of either may or may not appeal to me?

Seriously, what makes a sandwich press worth it and how does it fail?

I think the biggest fail is the lack of SMS on this device. What happens on the 3G model when you run out of data?
