I brought a used 32gb Iphone 4 off trademe and it arrived in the mail today and the box of it says 16gb but when i plugged it into my computer it said 28gb.
So did the trader rip me off or is it really a 32gb and its normal for it to be only 28gb?
Just seems strange they would put a 32gb Iphone into a 16gb Iphone box.

The seller probably gave you the wrong box which happened to be for the wrong model. I would email the seller and try and get the real box but its up to you. And as for the computer seeing the 32GB iphone as a 28GB, thats the computer reading it as GigaBytes, which is less than GigaBits, which is what is printed on the iPhone. I have this problem with my iPod touch, its an 8GB model but reads as just under 7GB on my computer. Its really annoying

read the fine print from Apple

1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.

32GB = 32 billion bytes.

8 bits = 1 byte. 1024 bytes = 1KB and so forth

If you still have no idea of the above, the short answer is Yes that is the right capacity. This applies to almost every drive capacity out there. i.e. please do not ask why your next 2TB drive only shows up as 1.8TB
