hey guys.. this is likely posted in the wrong place – ive put it here as im sure the answer will be part hardware, part app, part iOS..

i do a bit of work at sports events as a second job – mostly running micophones and ground announcing, but i also often handle the sound side of the work.

im looking for a way to connect my ipad to a desk mixer and suspect the new StudioDock might do the trick – http://alesis.com/studiodock

but im also looking for a way to play music at the event and even have a couple samples queued up as hot keys/stings – for eg. if someone scores a try, there's always a key piece of music played etc or at a basketball game there's the "defence, defence" audio thing :)

anyone have any experience of the music or DJ apps out currently that might fit?

im currently running this whole thing in multiple instances of winamp – but i reckon the touch screen would be much better for firing off those stings.

i guess the mulitple channel thing would be the issue

cheers in advance for any help given

the ipad has a 3.5mm out jack, which you could grab an adaptor to make it into RCA x2 or another adaptor to whatever connection you need. it can be quite messy with many cables and adaptors .
the studio dock looks like a stylish all in one fix for this problem.
if you wanted to play some sounds you have on your pc or something, you could make a basic ipad app with buttons that will play each sound you want. a.k.a. fire off those stings. so like 4 buttons, each with a sound like "defence defence" etc

a bit more detail, like what connections your trying to connect to, may be some help.

I know there is a app to control Virtual Dj on computer with your ipad so you could cue the songs in each deck and press play on your ipad? IIRC the latest version of VDJ supports 6 decks, I don't think the app does tho =\

a simple way to queue songs on an ipad is the make an "on the go" list.
unless cue is something different?

"The best part about the "On The Go" playlist is that you can "queue up" songs, as you are listening to your iPod"

a read through the apps on here might be of help, or give you some ideas for DJ?

i work with a range of different mixing desks - i've ordered the StudioDock as it has many good output options

i think this might be the path i head down.. just use the ipad for the quick fire stings.. these at least wont have to be multi channel. ill likely leave the music and mics on my PC and mixer set up
